The Bad Design - http://www.bangsanthai.com/index.html This is a Thai restaurant site. When I first looked at this site it was hard to tell what the name of restaurant was. The color of the buttons and text inside of the buttons are hard to see. The rollover on the buttons is almost non-existent, you can’t even see it. There is underlined text on the home page that looks like it may be a hyperlink but is not, that is confusing. The text is too small to read in places where it needs to be bigger and easier to read. There is a banner type of message in the middle of the page that is out of proportion to the rest of the page. Last but not least, there is a photo in the “Lunch Specials” box that was taken through a window, and photos at the bottom of the page that people may never see.
I could go on and on with this site. Very little thought put into the design, typography is a complete mess, very inconsistent nothing really lines up at all although the colors work. After posting this, I emailed them about my findings, since then, they have changed it!
The Good Design -
http://oldnavy.gap.com/ Soon as this site loaded it looked very colorful; fun, easy to read, and easy to navigate around. The navigation bar has a nice rollover pop feature; the categories are simple and take you direct to where you want to go. The pictures are all interactive when you click on them. There is a store locator at the top, and a place where you can login as well. The typography and design flow very well, and the links on the left side are well organized.
